General Motors of Canada Commends Government Announcement on “Windsor-Essex Parkway”
Oshawa, Ontario (May 1, 2008) — The Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Transport Canada are making progress towards reducing border congestion and keeping trade moving between Canada and the United States with today’s announcement of the Windsor-Essex Parkway as the access road from Highway 401 to a new Detroit River crossing.
“The announcement of the Windsor-Essex Parkway is the next, long-awaited step towards improving the Windsor-Detroit gateway,” said David Paterson, Vice President of Corporate and Environmental Affairs. “We are encouraged to see our governments moving with a sense of urgency to address this critical issue related to the efficient movement of goods in Ontario’s economy.”
General Motors of Canada encourages all levels of government to continue working together towards the timely implementation of the additional crossing infrastructure for the busy Windsor-Detroit border gateway. Additional infrastructure and streamlined customs processes for low-risk traffic are critical to ensure just-in-time delivery schedules for auto manufacturing facilities on both sides of the border can be accommodated.
